GUILLOW'S MODEL KITS 2001 - P-38 LIGHTNING - SCALE FLYING MODEL KIT IN BALSA

Scale 1:16

Wingspan: 102 cm

The Lockheed P-38 Lightning was a revolutionary fighter for its time with its tricycle landing gear, twin boom and turbocharger. The first models were accepted by the Air Force in October 1941, and by the end of the war nearly 10,000 had rolled off the production lines. From introduction until 1945, many changes were made to the original design to meet the needs of the air services. On April 18, 1943, a P-38 flight shot down the great Japanese naval strategist, Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, while he was flying an inspection tour of the Solomon Islands. Because of its unusual configuration, the Lightning was nicknamed the "fork-tailed devil" by the Luftwaffe and "two planes with one pilot" by the reluctant Japanese earned due to its formidable appearance and reputation.
