MANTUA MODEL 779 - U.S.S. CONSTITUTION

Scale 1:98

Length: 960 mm

The USS Constitution, nicknamed Old Iron Sides, is a three-masted wooden-hulled heavy frigate of the United States Navy. Named by President George Washington in honor of the Constitution of the United States of America, it is the most ancient floating warship commissioned to the world. Launched in 1797, Constitution was one of the original six frigates authorized for construction by the Naval Act of 1794. Joshua Humphreys designed her. frigates so that they were the capital ships of the young Navy, and therefore Constitution and her sisters were more large, armed and built more heavily compared to standard frigates of the period. Built in Boston, Massachusetts, at Edmund Hartt's shipyard, her first duties with the newly formed United States Navy were to provide protection for American merchant ships during the Quasi-War with France and to defeat the Barbary pirates in the First World War barbaresca.

  • The construction is planking and frames with laser-cut walnut bridges.
  • The hull, covered in walnut, can be covered with copper plates
  • wooden and metal accessories
  • flags printed on silk, hemp
  • detailed drawings in various tables with assembly instructions
