USS Essex was a 32-gun frigate built in Salem, Massachusetts in 1799. She was known throughout the world for her speed. and graceful lines, achieving many records  for the young American Navy.

Essex is was the first US warship to round the Cape of Good Hope in the Indian Ocean. Thirteen years later, she became the first American warship to round the Horn in the Pacific.

Sailing in the Pacific during the War of 1812, he captured 18 British merchant and whaling ships, causing the loss of nearly a million dollars in revenue and devastating their whaling industry.

The English sent two ships, the Phoebe and the Cherub, to hunt the Essex. The miserable  cornered off Valparaiso and conquered it: its 32 carronades were no match for the long-range English guns. She was captured and taken into the Royal Navy.


THE MODEL SHIPWAYS KIT
The Model Shipways kit is Relatively easy to build with bulkhead plank construction, thanks to its 20 sheets of CAD-assisted laser-cut basswood parts, available in a variety of sizes. of thicknesses. The high-quality lime tree is  also used for hull and deck planking. An unusual feature of this model is that the bridge, fully detailed, is left visible to show the spectacular in terms of  furnishings and fittings.


A host of accessories ensures that the model you build is authentic down to the last detail, and a boat aboard a separate mini-kit enhances the look. The masterfully cast metal Britannia pistols are miniature versions of the original armament. Brass nails, eyebolts, locking pins, and split rings are properly scaled, and a photo-etched sheet of detailed parts adds the finishing touches.

Although this Admiralty model has no full-size spars or sails, some rigging is included. Five diameters of lanyard are used and the deadeyes, blocks and bullseyes are hardwood ready for use.

Six sheets of plans with part identifiers, a clearly written instruction manual of over 100 pages ensure a great building experience.

ADMIRALTY MODELS, A BRITISH TRADITION

During the 17th and 18th centuries, the Admiralty of the Royal Navy required builders to submit a model of a ship proposed for construction. Only then, after consideration, will the Council approve the proposal. the financing. Called Admiralty models, these were among the best ever made. They were not equipped with an exposed hull and deck structure to allow inspection of the ship's architecture, deck furnishings and decorations in three-dimensional format.

THE NAVAL MODEL KIT

We designed our kit as a model of the Admiralty to showcase the incredibly rich detail of her decks, furnishings and accessories.

The expertly crafted Britannia metal pistols are miniature versions of the original armament. Brass nails, eyebolts, belay pins and split rings are correctly sized, and a photo-etched sheet of detailed parts adds the finishing touch.
