In the race to conquer the South Pole, the names of three great explorers stand out: Ernest Shackleton, Robert Falcon Scott and Roald Amundsen.

The Endurance was launched on 17 December 1912 with the name "Polaris". Originally it was a frigate, later transformed into a three-masted brig, and in 1914 it took part in the famous "Imperial Transantarctic Expedition", to cross Antarctica under the command of Sir Ernest Shackleton.

Following the shipwreck of August 19, 1915, they were trapped in the ice of the Weddell Sea. For 522 days they had to resist winds that reached a speed of of 300 km/h and temperatures of 40 degrees below zero.

Shackleton, accompanied by some of his men on board the lifeboat «James Caird», made one of the longest voyages memorable and heroic in the history of navigation. And together with his crew he managed to in the biggest undertaking most important of all: survive!

The expedition is remembered as an epic adventure of overcoming, heroism and fight for survival.
